Finding Healing at Every Turn
Welcome to My Practice
Hello, and welcome! I’m Dr. Edwards, a psychologist who works with adults who have learned to second-guess, override, or disconnect from themselves, often after years of adapting to difficult relationships or painful experiences.
You may understand your patterns intellectually yet still find yourself people-pleasing, overfunctioning, shutting down, or losing touch with what you feel and need. Through attachment- and somatic-focused therapy, I help clients reconnect with their own experience, rebuild self-trust, and create relationships and lives that do not require them to disappear.
My Approach
I believe therapy works best as a collaboration, one that respects your understanding of yourself while making room for experiences that may be difficult to name, feel, or trust. Many of the people I work with already have insight into their patterns, yet still find themselves second-guessing their perceptions, overfunctioning for others, shutting down, or losing touch with what they feel and need when closeness, conflict, or vulnerability feels threatening.
Our work together is tailored to you. Rather than viewing these responses as flaws, we become curious about how they developed, what they have protected you from, and whether they still fit the life and relationships you want. I integrate psychodynamic, attachment-based, somatic, mentalization-based, and DBT-informed approaches to explore how earlier experiences continue to shape your emotions, body, sense of self, and ways of connecting with others.
The goal is not simply to understand why you respond as you do. It is to help you recognize and trust your own experience, remain connected to yourself during difficult relational moments, and respond with greater choice instead of being pulled automatically into old survival patterns.
Available Services
Individual Therapy
I draw from interpersonal and dialectical behavior therapies, as well as psychodynamic, emotion-focused, somatic, attachment-based, and mentalization-based approaches. This flexibility is especially valuable when you understand your patterns but still second-guess what you feel, lose yourself in relationships, overfunction, or shut down when closeness feels threatening. Rather than fitting you into a single model, we pay attention to how your history, emotions, body, protective responses, and relationships interact. Sometimes, as Dr. Jon Allen puts it, the work is “just plain old therapy”—a thoughtful, collaborative relationship in which you can reconnect with yourself, trust your own experience, and have more choice in how you respond.
Somatic Experiencing
II have completed the Somatic Experiencing® Professional Training Program and am a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner (SEP). I offer somatic therapy for adults who may understand their patterns intellectually but still feel caught in activation, shutdown, disconnection, or difficulty trusting what their bodies are telling them. This work helps us slow down, become curious about protective responses, and support a greater sense of connection, agency, and choice.
I also especially enjoy providing adjunctive somatic work for people who already have a talk therapist and want focused support for the body-based aspects of trauma and attachment. With your written permission, I am happy to collaborate with your therapist so that each form of therapy has a clear role and supports the work you are already doing.
Attachment Consultation
I offer attachment consultations for adults who want a deeper understanding of why closeness, conflict, vulnerability, or relying on others can feel so difficult. Grounded in Attachment Theory, the evaluation explores how you learned to seek connection, protect yourself, respond to relational stress, and make sense of your emotional experience. Rather than reducing you to an attachment style, the consultation identifies patterns that may contribute to self-doubt, overfunctioning, withdrawal, or losing yourself in relationships. The findings can clarify what has kept you feeling stuck and provide individualized direction for therapy, greater self-trust, and relationships in which you can remain connected without abandoning yourself.
